Why Are You Interested in iRacing?
Before jumping into the world of iRacing, it’s important to reflect on what brought you here. Are you:
- A motorsports fan looking for a realistic racing experience?
- A gamer transitioning from other racing sims?
- Someone aiming to improve real-world driving or track skills?
- Interested in competitive online racing and eSports?
Understanding your motivation will help shape your approach and expectations in iRacing.
Setting Your Short, Mid & Long-Term Goals
Short-Term Goals (First Few Weeks)
- Learn the basics of iRacing: settings, controls, and driving mechanics.
- Complete a few solo practice sessions and get comfortable with the car.
- Participate in a simulated AI race to experience race conditions.
- Choose a Rookie Series (Mazda MX-5, Toyota BR86, or BMW M2) and complete a few practice races.
- Maintain a clean Safety Rating (SR) by avoiding incidents.
Mid-Term Goals (First 3-6 Months)
- Develop consistency in lap times and improve car control.
- Compete in official Rookie races while maintaining a good iRating and SR.

- Move up to a higher license class (D or C) while keeping incident points low.
Long-Term Goals (6+ Months and Beyond)
- Become competitive in higher-license series with more experienced drivers.
- Explore different car classes and racing disciplines (GT, Open Wheel, Oval, Dirt, etc.).
- Participate in endurance races or special events.
- Improve iRating and race in higher-strength-of-field races.
- Join a team or league for structured competition.
